Full Job Description

The purpose of this role is to increase and sustain the number of females participating in rugby, by supporting and driving the implementation of the Women and Girls Rugby strategy and ensuring a positive environment for players, coaches and volunteers. It is the Women & Girls Rugby Officer responsibility to

maintain programmes within the region that cater for potential players, coaches and volunteers to enhance the player pathway within Wales.,

  • To facilitate, develop, initiate and support stakeholders to offer inclusive environments to increase participation in women and girl's rugby across all age ranges.

  • Implementing relevant national and localised initiatives to increase participation in women and girl's rugby for the long term.

  • Change, challenge and champion mindsets to incorporate women and girls into rugby at all levels - Playing, coaching, refereeing and volunteering.

  • National Project Management related to women and girl's portfolio.

  • Fully understand the women and girl's rugby landscape in the region and develop a data driven approach to deliver a regional operational plan to develop women and girl's participation in line with National priorities.

  • Be the central point of contact to support the implementation of the women and girl's pathway across the region from grassroots through to the developing potential programme working closely with the Regional development team and maximising opportunities to increase participation.

  • Develop and expand the female rugby hubs into fully functioning quality outlets for girls to participate in rugby including volunteer development and recruitment and the delivery of festival and competition outlets as required.

  • Engage and support School/University Hub Officers across the region to ensure programmes are inclusive and actively encourages women and girl's participation in rugby and rugby leadership.

  • Work with implementing the strategic approach for clubs and therefore with targeted rugby clubs to increase membership and ensure environments are fully supportive in developing women and girls rugby.

  • Manage and assess new and existing clubs against the relevant criteria to ensure they are functioning appropriately and developing action plans where required.

  • Establish a women and girl's rugby advisory group in the region to ensure stakeholders work in partnership to develop and grow the game according to future demands and opportunities.

  • Deliver key National Initiatives in line with the National plan, for example, the adult participation programme, Try Our Game, Rookie Rugby, ReadyToRef, major events legacy plans.

  • Support the regional development department to develop and deliver the operational plan for the region and support on programmes as agreed.

    Strong interpersonal and relationship management.

  • Strong influencing, engagement and negotiation skills

  • Facilitation experience to empower others to deliver.

  • Developing and implementing innovative and creative approaches.

  • Experience of successfully working with a variety of stakeholders and building effective partnerships.

  • Experience of managing and implementing change.

  • Proven track record of working in and developing programmes to increase participation, preferably with a focus on increasing women and girl's participation.

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance., The WRU require that individuals are proficient in IT skills, specifically Microsoft packages. Excellent written and verbal communications are essential, along with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.


  • Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh and a Valid UK Driver's License is desirable. This role is subject to a basic/enhanced DBS check.
