Full Job Description

Job Summary: To underwrite and lead a portfolio of Pleasure craft & High Value Yacht accounts, within the Beazley Digital team, utilising various digital platforms and resources and provide counsel and advice on underwriting related issues. Develop and maintain positive broker relations by underwriting and supporting the key Marine products. Provide technical expertise in this business area and maintain and improve market reputation of the Beazley brand.

To work in close partnership with the colleagues in Beazley Digital Technology and Operations to form a true cross functional team.

General

  • Develop best practice and disseminate business and product knowledge within the team and Beazley Digital.

  • Work with peers to maximise business opportunities and profitability within the department; active knowledge sharing and strategic alignment with Digital Underwriting, Technology and Operations teams. This will include but not be limited to sharing market information, marketing sources and cross selling opportunities.

  • Share and gather knowledge within the Beazley Group to ensure dissemination of best practice and maximise business opportunities and profitability within the Group.

  • Production of presentations and marketing literature as required.

  • Production of business plans/research documents for the account as required.

This may include, amongst others, Beazley's underwriting control standards, Beazley's claims control standards, other Beazley standards and customer relationship management.

  • Carry out additional responsibilities as individually notified, either through your objectives or through the learning management system. These may include membership of any Beazley committees or working groups.


  • Key Responsibilities:
    Underwriting

  • Develop and underwrite a profitable portfolio of Marine Pleasure craft business, which is digitally distributed.

  • Collaborate and be willing to travel within the UK and across Europe, either alone or with the broker relations and territory managers to create new and enhance existing broker contacts.

  • Structure solutions by considering the team underwriting parameters and underwriting policy and using underwriting knowledge and experience to win new business and retain existing; while taking into account the most effective method of digital distribution.

  • Ensure broker queries and system referrals are dealt with in a timely fashion.

  • Monitor premiums, costs and claims ratios and take corrective measures if necessary, to ensure long term profitability.

  • Monitor peer underwriters in their daily work to ensure profitability as well as efficient and cost effective administration of the Digital account.

  • Work alongside team colleagues to ensure the efficient and cost effective administration of the portfolio.

  • Monitor and supervise assistants in their daily work to ensure compliance with underwriting philosophy and policy and consistency within the team and Beazley Digital and with other relevant trading teams.

  • Comply with Beazley's underwriting control standards for business written through Lloyd's, BIdac or Beazley's internal MGAs.

  • Develop a good working relationship with the claims managers on this class of business.

  • Foster positive relationships with clients and brokers to get a mutual understanding of both their and Beazley's needs.

  • Maintain awareness of overall Beazley product range and take advantages of opportunities to introduce other Beazley products to clients.

  • Knowledge and Experience
  • General commercial and financial knowledge

  • Extensive experience in insurance industry

  • Extensive experience of Pleasure craft & High Value Yacht underwriting or broking

  • Thorough knowledge of underwriting policy, philosophy and practice

  • Advanced knowledge of underwriting processes and systems

  • Client service experience

  • Experience of underwriting vessels up to £12 million in value

  • Experience with enhancing, maintaining and developing broker relationships, both new and old

  • Ideally having had involvement in digitising a Marine product and using various distribution methods including but not limited to E-trade and Acturis.
