We deal with a huge range of Building Control projects, from domestic extensions to large-scale commercial and public developments. Uniquely, Coventry is the home to two designated sports grounds which means we get involved in ensuring the safety of tens of thousands of sports fans and concert goers.

We work collaboratively with a range of other departments and agencies to promote our key strategic objectives such as sustainable development, energy efficiency, accessibility, and fire safety., As a Trainee Building Control Officer, you will work across all disciplines within Building Control and both post holders will attend the Building Control Surveying Degree Apprenticeship to obtain a BSc (Hons) Degree Building Control Surveying. The course is delivered weekly online with two residential weeks per year delivered at The University of Wolverhampton.

On the days when the post holders are not attending taught classes they will work in the team supporting the Building Control Officers and learning on the job.

These roles offer an opportunity to work in a busy high-profile environment, so practical experience of working in Building Control or other regulatory settings is desirable.

As knowledge and competence develops, you will be required to undertake a case load of reactive work, including responding to and investigating complaints, as well as proactive project work, enforcement and educational activities where required.

This is a career progression graded role and progression will depend upon successful completion of the BSc (Hons) Degree Building Control Surveying., You will have the drive and enthusiasm required to undertake 4 years study to obtain a BSc (Hons) Degree Building Control Surveying whilst undertaking work based activities during the days you do not attend University.
