Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to apply for a Team Managers Post in the independent Review Officer service.

Hertfordshire is an Outstanding authority, and we are looking for someone with passion and enthusiasm to work alongside our existing team manager to support the service in its work in improving outcomes for children. You will join a stable supportive and inclusive management team.

Hertfordshire is a large local authority, and you will work alongside our existing team Manager to supervise a large team of children's IRO's.

In addition, you will have responsibility for supervising our two Placement IRO's who undertake Regulation 44 Visits and a small number of Independent Fostering Reviews

As a service we are passionate to ensure that all children and young people have a voice and an opportunity to share their views. To ensure this is at the heart of what we do, you will ensure effective monitoring of our engagement with children , identify themes that impact the performance of the local authority and support IRO's to challenge issues of concern.

The successful candidate will have an opportunity to shape the continued development of a busy Independent Review Team.

In addition, there are opportunities to impact the development and practice across the wider social work workforce through contributions to task and finish groups and county wide service panels. In this way you will have further opportunities to contribute to best practice and learning across the whole service.

To apply for this role, you must be a qualified Social Worker, registered with SWE and have at least 5 years post qualifying experience.

You will also need to demonstrate.

  • Excellent communication skills

  • A good understanding of the role of the Independent Review Office and legislation as it applies to Looked after Children.

  • Experience of having worked successfully at a supervisory/managerial level to develop a high performing social work team.

  • Experience and skills in partnership working across Children's Services.

  • Ability to advise and make decisions on complex cases.

  • You will be able to challenge practice, where appropriate, both internally and with our external providers.

  • As part of this role you will be required to travel across the County using your own mode of transport.
