Full Job Description

  • Under the guidance of the Site Manager, provide maintenance, safety and security support for the school., Operational Tasks

  • Carry out locking and unlocking of the school buildings, providing emergency access if required.

  • Undertake regular security checks and identify security risks.

  • Monitor fire safety equipment.

  • Supervise external contractors on site.

  • Monitor the schools room booking system to ensure spaces booked for meetings and events are set up and cleared away accordingly.


  • Maintenance and Cleaning
  • To organise and carry out various maintenance duties to ensure that the general upkeep and maintenance of the premises is satisfactory, as per specific schedule for your school.

  • Undertake minor/simple repairs e.g. minor plumbing, changing light fittings, unblocking drains.

  • To organise and carry out decoration programmes as agreed with the Site Manager.

  • To organise and carry out minor improvement work e.g. erecting shelves, notice boards, book shelves etc. as agreed with the Site Manager

  • Operation and maintenance of heating plant and lighting systems.

  • To oversee and monitor the electrical testing of portable electrical appliances and to maintain the appropriate records.

  • Undertake regular site inspections and identify and record any repair and maintenance requirements.

  • Undertake routine maintenance checks within the required timescales causing minimal disruption to staff and students.

  • Undertake emergency cleaning, including duties such as graffiti removal.

  • Coordinate deliveries to the school site.

  • Ensure that satisfactory levels of caretaking, cleanliness and hygiene are achieved and maintained through the whole of the premises, including specialist cleaning tasks.

  • Ensure that the pathways and all other external hard surfaces are kept clean, free of litter and weeds and that they are gritted or salted when required during wintry conditions.

  • Ensure all outside spaces, including gullies and drains are kept clean and tidy.

  • Ensure outside bins are regularly emptied.


  • Organisation & Supervisory Tasks
  • Demonstrate and assist in the safe and effective use of specialist equipment / materials.

  • Provide specialist advice and guidance as required.

  • Be responsible for maintaining records, information and data as required.

  • Provide out of hours cover for lettings and school events as required.

  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and productive working environment.

  • Ensure timely and accurate design, preparation and use of specialist equipment/ resources/ materials.

  • To assist in safety audits of the premises and contribute to relevant risk assessment activity.

  • Promote and ensure the health and safety of pupils, staff & visitors (in accordance with appropriate health & safety legislation) at all times.

  • Liaise with outside contractors as required.

  • Attend all appropriate meetings as instructed by the Site Manager.


  • Professional Development
  • Help keep knowledge and understanding relevant and up-to-date by reflecting on your own practice, liaising with school leaders, and identifying relevant professional development to improve personal effectiveness

  • Take opportunities to build the appropriate skills, qualifications, and/or experience needed for the role, with support from the school


  • Other Responsibilities
