Full Job Description

As a business we're growing, and our national Property Disputes practice are contributing to that through some exciting new client wins. We now have an opportunity for a 5+ PQE lawyer to join the team.

What will you be doing?

Our retail practice is one of the largest nationally and is expanding. We have an enviable client list, made up of landlords and tenants (with national portfolios), developers and investors, ranging from significant public sector bodies to FTSE 250 household names across a range of sectors including telecoms, retail, energy and central and local government and transport and infrastructure.

You'll play an important role in helping us grow our retail practice assisting in a wide range of contentious commercial property matters, including telecoms, landlord and tenant (e.g. 1954 Act renewals, dilapidations and break notices) and general property issues such as adverse possession, easements and title disputes. The team is extremely busy so you'll be able to get stuck into great quality client work immediately both as a principle fee earner and supervising others. The Property Disputes Team works very closely with our transactional Real Estate team so you will have the opportunity to develop strong ties across the practice where you'll be supported by a tight knit, friendly team with a collegiate approach and a firm wide commitment to development.

Most importantly you will have a genuine enthusiasm for this area of law and the aspiration to deliver a first class service to our clients.

You'll need strong academic ability, a thorough approach to complex legal analysis with swift assimilation of complicated sets of facts. Your written advice will be fluent and concise and your high level of commerciality will enable you to address the client's overall objectives. Strong interpersonal skills will give you the ability to deal diplomatically and effectively with the different interests of our clients.

As important will be the ability to work with and alongside a range of colleagues, across locations, as some of the work we deal with involves multi-disciplinary teams. This is an exciting time to join this team and the role offers an unrivalled opportunity to learn from the best and to develop a career in a growing specialism.

To be successful in this role you'll need as a minimum:

  • 5+ years' experience in property litigation

  • In depth knowledge of Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 renewals (both unopposed and opposed) ideally in the context of managing a large property portfolio

  • A proven track record in supervising more junior colleagues

  • A strong financial track record

We continually work hard to create an open culture that sets us apart from other firms. Our culture gives us much more of a human feel, emphasising that we're more than just suits!

  • As signatories to the Mindful Business Charter, it's important to us that our people are able to maintain healthy and happy lives, both in and out of work. We have a number of resources and initiatives designed to support health and wellbeing and we're very happy to talk flexible working, full-time or part-time working patterns.

Through our DEI initiatives we create an environment in which difference is valued. We have an Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Group, led by our Board Sponsor, which works with our colleague networks (we currently have firm supported networks for race, ethnicity, and cultural heritage, LGBTQ+, disabilities, families, and women's career development and we're in constant dialogue with our people about how we expand our networks to better support everybody).
