Full Job Description

1. Responsible for the collection of blood samples from inpatients, outpatients, clinics, GP surgeries and homes of patients as specified by the supervisor. 2. Responsible for the safe disposal of contaminated materials, including sharps. 3. Undertake reception duties department to welcome and advise patients and staff as required by supervisor. 4. To sort and identify specimens received. 5. Undertake preparation of samples for testing using separation techniques such as centrifugation and tapping off. 6. Responsible for the tracking and recording of samples to ensure that relevant information is available for the supervisor. 7. Responsible for monitoring and replenishing of medical stock. 8. Undertake agreed clinical and non clinical tasks following training, ensuring referral to appropriate trained staff as required. 9. Support less experienced members of staff in their orientation to the department and role. 10. To participate in appraisals and personal reviews and to work to achieve
personal objectives. 11. To participate in the provision of an out of hours laboratory service as required. 12. To assist with the provision of high quality service for staff and patients. 13. Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards. 14. To undertake such duties as shall be prescribed by the Deputy Laboratory Manager in accordance with this grade of post.
