Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join our multi-disciplinary and Neuro-Oncology Team which includes Clinical Oncologists, Clinical Nurse Specialists, chemotherapy nurses and radiographers. The post-holder will also specialise in Head and Neck and provide cross-cover for thyroid cancers would join the relevant MDTs and support the outpatient clinic, radiotherapy and chemotherapy teams., 1. The appointee will take ongoing responsibility for patients under their care.
2. The appointee will provide a consultation service and advisory service to other clinical colleagues in other specialties within the Trust and Primary Care.
3. The appointee will develop close collaborative links with clinicians working in their specialties and work to develop services provided to patients in these areas to the highest standards including the development of treatment protocols and guidelines.
4. The appointee will attend the site-specific MDTs and participate in, and support, the multidisciplinary care team which includes Medical Oncologists, Clinical Oncologists, Surgeons, the relevant junior team, Specialist Nursing Staff, Therapists, Dietician, Social workers, Palliative Care and Psychology services for patients and families.
5. The appointee will take part in the departmental audit programme as well as participating in multidisciplinary audit relating to their area of clinical interest.
6. The appointee will participate in regular clinical meetings and other postgraduate activities.
7. The appointee will supervise trainees working in the Department and will assist in their training and appraisal, including acting as Educational / Clinical supervisor.
8. The appointee will participate in the Trust Performance and Annual Appraisal process and be responsible for ensuring that they support the principles of revalidation by the General Medical Council., The post is required to support the site-specialist consultant-led service including facilities for inpatients and outpatients, dedicated chemotherapy suites and radiotherapy facilities. The appointee will support the Acute Oncology Service as core member of the team, the ward in-patient care and contribute to the On Call rota (currently 1 in 18). The post holder will be expected to provide cross cover for MDTs (videoconferencing is available) and to liaise with the Acute Physicians/Emergency department as part of the supporting the Acute Nurse Led Oncology Service and when on call. Patients will be treated in both the Arden Cancer Centre on the UH site, the Maple Unit on the St Cross Hospital, Rugby and the Aylesford and Rigby units at the SWFT.
One of the key duties of this post will be to drive forward advanced and complex radiotherapy techniques for Neuro-Oncology and Head and Neck cancers, apart from augmenting immunotherapy and chemotherapy services for these sites. In due course, the post-holder will be expected to obtain ARSAC licence for supporting/cover for Radio-Iodine treatment for Thyroid cancers. In addition, there is an integrated Oncology Clinical Trials Centre and the department is currently growing its Medical Oncology team.

We are keen to appoint a dynamic Consultant Clinical Oncologist to join our team of 23 Clinical Oncologists and 2 Medical Oncologists at the UHCW NHS Trust, ie the Arden Cancer Centre, serving Coventry and the adjoining Cancer Units at South Warwickshire Foundation Trust (SWFT), George Eliot Hospital (GEH), Stratford Rigby Unit and Rugby Maple Unit.
