Full Job Description

Westmorland and Furness Council is seeking to recruit a Level 2 Locality Officer to work as part of a multi-skilled neighbourhood based team. This role will be based in Kendal to support the towns and surrounding areas.

As a Locality Officer you will be providing a presence out and about in the community and building and maintaining excellent working relationships with Ward Councillors, Customers and Partner organisations. You will also be supporting other Locality Officers in managing complex situations.

In the role you will have a regulatory presence, dealing with public protection issues around barking dogs, bonfires, alarms, pest control and assisting the food safety team. Part of your duties (approx. one day per week and covering holidays) you will undertake private water sampling across the district visiting properties who do not have mains supply, accredited water sampling training will be provided. Data and images from all visits will be documented daily to enable up to date notes for each case.

You will attend annual training courses in the above areas of work.

Locality Services is a flexible service that provides customer support which may extend beyond traditional working hours, therefore flexible working arrangements may be required. Some weekend working is also required as and when needed. Please note, the Locality Team mostly work outdoors in all weathers and terrains., If you are invited to a virtual interview, this will preferably be undertaken using the Microsoft Teams software, which is currently free for new users, however if there are any issues with accessing this technology, we are happy to discuss alternative arrangements prior to the interviews.

  • Know and understand the community, Council assets and public concerns. You will also be able to resolve issues and support new projects and initiatives.

  • Have a proven ability to be accurate, detailed and professional in their approach to work and an ability to deliver high standards of customer service at all times.

  • Experience in handling enforcement issues or similar would be beneficial.
