Full Job Description

To have responsibility for teaching an assigned class and to be responsible for the day-to-day work and management of classes within the phase and the safety and welfare of the pupils as appropriate.

Duties include helping deliver the highest standard of education to the students, supporting teachers and staff, and ensuring an overall safe and successful school environment.

Generic responsibilities

To promote the aims and objectives of the school and maintain its philosophy of education and to support the Headteacher in promoting the ethos of the School.

To meet and conform to the appropriate standards set out in the Teachers Standards and the current School Teachers' Pay and Conditions document or such other revised document/s as identified by the Department for Education.

To follow any current and applicable School Policies under the direction of the Headteacher.

To respond to the needs of the school, with particular reference to the teaching of groups and classes within the school, as deemed necessary by the Headteacher in accordance with STPCD.

Specific Responsibilities - Phase Leader

To lead the team, be instrumental in planning for continual improvement and contribute to the evaluation of the work of the phase.

Attend regular Senior Management Team meetings, providing a communication stream between staff members within the phase and the senior leaders within the school.

Use information gained from the analysis of data from National Curriculum tests and other information to modify and improve curriculum provision.

Monitor the implementation of the school's curriculum, ensuring that the intended curriculum is being taught effectively

Support and monitor the progress of the School Improvement Plan so that standards are maintained and improved.

To promote an atmosphere of continuing professional development and to share good practices with colleagues.

To support the professional development of all staff, including Early Career Teachers and initial teacher training students.

To manage effectively all staff connected with the phase; monitor the quality of teaching and learning; provide support to colleagues and advise the Headteacher on all staffing matters within the phase.

Support staff within the phase with the management of behaviour and conduct, implementing the school's Behaviour Policy.

To appraise TAs on an annual basis as a part of the Senior Management Team.

Encourage all staff to recognise and fulfil their statutory responsibilities.

To contribute to the implementation of the safety regulations in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other DFE guidelines.

Specific Responsibilities- Class Teacher

To meet the expectations of a class teacher as determined by the Teachers' Standards document and the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document and to locally agreed conditions of employment to the extent that they are incorporated in the postholders contract of employment.

To create and manage a caring, supportive, and purposeful classroom environment.

To plan and prepare lessons to deliver the National Curriculum and the school"s schemes of work, ensuring teaching is of the highest standard.

To identify clear teaching objectives and learning outcomes with appropriate challenges and high expectations.

To organise and manage groups or individual pupils ensuring differentiation of learning needs, reflecting all abilities.

To plan opportunities to develop the social, cultural, and emotional aspects of pupils' learning.

To mark attendance registers, ensure absence and lateness are accounted for, and communicate with the school office staff when they are not.

To maintain a regular system of monitoring, assessment record keeping, and reporting of pupils' progress.

To ensure appropriate records are available for the transfer of pupils.

To communicate and consult with parents on all aspects of their children's education - academic, social, and emotional.

To work co-operatively as part of a phase team, including planning work and supervising support staff and parent helpers.

To actively take part in professional development, sharing expertise and experiences as required.

  • Store discount, We are looking for a positive and inspiring teacher, who has the drive and the desire to lead our Key Stage 1 Phase Team, which consists of six classes across both of our sites. This is a full-time, permanent role. The Phase Leaders at Somers Park have full-time class teaching responsibility and are an important part of our Senior Management Team, fundamental to running our large split-site school.
