Full Job Description

We are seeking a Herd Manager to join our established team and well-invested farm in Bromyard, Herefordshire.

NOTE - You will be working directly for the farm, not through REAL Success.

Our Farm

We are a high-yielding, well invested, family farm running across 1,200 acres with a 900 Holstein all-year-round calving flying herd, yielding 12,000 litres per annum. We milk three times a day using a GEA 50-point rotary parlour with a Northern Dairy Teat wand and brush. Our milk is supplied on an Arla 360 Morrison's contract. Our cows are housed all year round, and we have a team of 15 full-time staff with additional support provided by a night team. We are an award-winning, reputable farm and family business, looking for a highly capable and passionate Herds Manager to lead our team.

We are a highly invested unit, with high cow welfare and environmental awareness being the number one focus, utilising technology such as automatic foot baths, cow collars, fans throughout our sheds and LED lighting.

Your Role

- Liaise with the management team to achieve agreed KPI's, financial budgets, and herd targets.

- Leading on genetic progression and fertility, utilising both data provided by heat detection collars and instinctive cow knowledge to aid high welfare.

- Overall management of the herds health and wellbeing.

- Work in collaboration with the wider farm team regarding farm audits, cow nutrition, milk production and the fertility and general welfare of the dairy herd.

- Managing the team, including preparing and helping to implement the rota.

- Coordinate and be part of the management team rota for out-of-hours emergency calls.

- Utilising the data provided by Uniform and demonstrate a clear understanding of the software.

- Ensuring the farm is kept tidy & safe to operate.

- Liaising with vets & nutritionists.

- General stock person work and parlour maintenance.

- A full UK Driving license is required for this role. AI qualifications are preferred.

Have extensive knowledge of working on fertility and utilising data. You will have a proven track record of fertility performance.

- Possess vast cow knowledge and a passion for cow welfare.

- Be a skilled individual with a high attention to detail, who can lead a team and communicate effectively.

- Have experience working in high input, high output farming.

- Be motivated, adaptable, and skilled in agriculture.

- Overall a reliable and genuine person, who is invested in moving the farm forward.

- Willing to embrace new ideas and technology.

- Lead by example.,

  • Cow husbandry: 5 years (required)

  • Senior Herdsperson/Management: 2 years (preferred)

  • genetic progression and fertility: 2 years (preferred)

    £50,000 - £60,000 a year - Permanent, Full-time, In return, we offer a highly competitive salary based on your experience, and a 3 bedroom newly renovated semi-detached farmhouse situated on the farm.
