Full Job Description

Based in the Northwest within our Central Office in Nantwich, Cheshire with regular visits to our villages, you will be working closely with the Chief Executive and Operational leadership teams to continue to build a first class effective service and positive culture that supports our operational and core teams. As a departmental lead you will provide mentorship, support and line management function to the People team, enhancing the commitment to provide excellence in Learning and Development, Human Resource and Recruitment; driving forward positive change and standardisation through quality improvement and innovation.

In addition; as a member of the Belong senior management team you will be a visible presence working collaboratively with the managers in the central service and village teams to build on our established sector position.,

  • To ensure that Belong has a positive culture across all services and to promote and model our values.


  • To ensure that Belong has a best in class human resources and recruitment service with the aim that all our services are staffed adequately to deliver excellent quality care.


  • To ensure that Belong has an excellent Learning and Development function and uses it to develop, embed and enhance our own approach and philosophy of care delivery.


  • Driving effective leadership and capability across the operation ensuring the group has a committed, skilled and competent workforce that is motivated to learn, grow and perform along with a succession planning system to support a pipeline of development


  • Effective use of management information and people key performance indicators to develop and implement effective people strategies ensuring alignment with the organisation's strategic aims.


  • Promote an exceptional and innovative culture of high employee engagement, equality & diversity, customer care, continuous learning and high performance in order to attempt to deliver best in industry employee retention rates


  • Producing regular reports on the service for the Chief Executive, Senior leadership team and Board which cover assurance on performance progress against strategy and innovation.


  • To keep up to date with statutory employment law and Health & Social Care regulations and ensure that Belong plan proactively for changes and implement solutions smoothly


  • To ensure very effective 'business partnering' to our Villages and services who should be seen as our core customers for the team.


  • To link with wider sector via our various care related People forums that we are part of.


  • To look outside of the care sector for approaches and ideas to bring to our service and to constantly monitor the approach of our key care competitors to ensure that we stay ahead of the competition.


  • To act as the main contact with recognised Trade Unions, fostering a positive relationship.


  • Effectively lead and allocate the organisation's Human Resources and Learning and Development service adding value, delivering performance and managing risk.


  • Conduct and reporting of data compliance audits in order to assess and measure compliance levels with data protection laws, including any required follow up. Management of Human Resources and Learning and Development budgets.


  • To represent Belong and our goals externally at important industry functions, conferences and events.


  • To ensure that Belong maintains or exceeds our IIP gold status.


  • Supporting Responsibilities

  • To oversee the recruitment and on-boarding functions of the organisation, ensuring talent is identified and attracted through effective resourcing practice


  • To contribute to the development and updating of people-based systems, policies, procedures and practices helping to ensure that they are effective and comply with statutory employment law


  • Identify, design, deliver and evaluate Learning and Development solutions that develop and enhance the skills, knowledge and experience of our people


  • Identify, design and deliver programmes that recognise and reward skills, capabilities, experience and performance


  • Agree and manage all relevant external contracts and training providers whilst maximising the return on investment.


  • Lead on identifying standards and assessments that assess people performance (including Investors in People and Learning Quality Framework)


  • Lead on practice development and provide professional leadership to Practice Development Facilitators.


  • Carry out any other tasks reasonably assigned by the Executive Directors.


  • GENERAL

  • Be a visible and positive role model for colleagues, promoting the good reputation of Belong.


  • To work closely with the Executive Directors and the wider Senior Management Team to ensure that we have a People function that works effectively and positively across the central and village functions. This will involve regular visits to villages and our services to ensure that relationships with key village stakeholders are developed.


  • Take responsibility for developing and maintaining own knowledge, maintaining a personal development plan and participate in individual and team development activities.


  • Comply with Belong's policy and procedures for 'Fair Treatment at Work' by treating all colleagues with dignity and respect, and ensuring that all learning and development interventions use person-centred approaches and training methods.


  • Maintain the confidentiality of information, ensuring data protection, dignity and respect at all times.


  • Ensure appropriate audits and records are undertaken and maintained as required by Belong and CQC.


  • Attend and constructively contribute to internal and external meetings relevant to your role.


  • Ensure that Belong is a safe place to live and work, by following safe practices and responding to emergencies as required.


  • Adhere to all policies and procedures and legislative framework.

    As our Head of People you will be a confident, forward thinking and experienced Human Resources professional ideally having worked in multi-site organisations with a proven track record of developing and enhancing the People proposition to the wider organisation.

    Salary: £70,270 - £74,139 (depending on experience), 28 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays
