Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead and manage the Events team. You will be responsible for planning, delivering, co-ordinating and promoting an annual events programme across Wigan Borough, supporting our key corporate strategies and enhancing what our town and district centres have to offer. You will deliver a 5-year business plan, commercialising the events approach, leading to financial sustainability for the team and event delivery.

You will develop a ticketing strategy and promotional database for enhanced sales and audience development. Responsibilities include the development and implementation of safety elements that underpin strategies and events. You will build strategic partnerships to attract large scale events to the borough.

You will be an experienced and effective Events professional with substantial leadership and organisational skills. You must be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and best practise within an event management setting and hosting large-scale events.

You should engage positively with new challenges and development opportunities, demonstrating personal resilience when things don't go exactly to plan. You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate confidently and effectively with elected members, senior managers, partners and the local community.

Excellent decision-making skills and the ability to break down problems, coming up with innovative solutions are key. You must be able to manage budgets and resources and have good IT skills. It is essential that you are flexible and willing to work weekends and bank holidays in this role.

The Culture and Events Team is a key function within Strategy and Innovation department and this lead role will develop and deliver strategies and transformational plans that drive our ambitions forward.

This role offers the opportunity to oversee a small, fast-paced Events team, and manage virtual/project teams, on a series of exciting and high-profile projects and events. The Events team connect across all Council services, key partners and the voluntary and community sector to help drive vibrancy through our programme for town and district centres, and local communities.

Although the work will be demanding, you will have the support and training needed to fulfil the role, and the satisfaction of working on a series of successful events.
