Full Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic individual seeking a career as an Environmental Health Practitioner, with a specialist interest in Housing., The successful candidate will be expected to register for the Environmental Health Practitioner BSc Apprenticeship. This is a four year course, leading to a degree-level qualification and includes the main subject areas for a career in local government, together with the links to the wider public health elements.

It will be a condition of any employment offer that you are accepted onto the university degree programme, the course requires 80 UCAS points for acceptance. Support will be provided with the application.

The position will be located within the Private Sector Housing Teams, and time shared across the housing disciplines. The teams deal with a wide range of duties including the delivery of disabled facilities grants, empty property work, licensing of houses in multiple occupation and caravan sites and improving housing conditions. Your role will involve assisting team members on inspections along with project work.

Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role., To be successful you will have:

  • Grade 4/C or above in English and Maths GCSE (or other Level 2 equivalent)

  • 80 UCAS points (typically at least grades CCC at a Level or Level 3 equivalent) with a minimum of one science or technology-based

  • Able to cope with the academic demands of studying for a degree whilst working four days each week to develop practical skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Self-motivated with effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines, including the ability to prioritise and work methodically and accurately.

  • Collaborative approach, capable of influencing and being assertive in appropriate situations

  • Work well within a team
