Full Job Description

We have an opening for a Data Engineer to join our Data and BI Team as part of the wider IT Team who cover Applications, Infrastructure, Service Desk, Cybersecurity and Data & BI across Yeo Valley.
We are looking for an experienced, pipeline-centric data engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a rare curiosity and creativity. Beyond technical prowess, the data engineer will need soft skills for clearly communicating highly complex data trends to a variety of stakeholders.

Yeo Valley is at a time of exciting business growth. We are also making strides in the industry, taking on a huge sustainability journey, as we look to promote key environmental initiatives including soil health through organic farming. We are passionate about feeding the nation with real, healthy organic food that doesn't impact our planet.

This role is a great opportunity for anyone looking to work in a company that is passionate about the planet and expanding their experience in line with new technologies and digital approaches. You will be based as part of our IT team in our Acorn House location in Highbridge, our newly refurbished spacious offices (decorated with a local twist!), only half an hour from Bristol and just off of the M5 Junction 22.

The role will have opportunities for a mixture of on-site and working from home options, plus there is a great staff canteen!

Your responsibilities:

  • Build data pipelines that clean, transform, and aggregate data from disparate sources.

  • Create and improve dimension and fact tables to allow better reporting and deep dives.

  • Test, deploy, maintain, and review regular updates for the data warehousing systems.

  • Work closely with our analysts and BI developer to help build complex algorithms that provide unique insights into our data.

  • Create and update documentation of processes using ClickLearn.

  • Good understanding & adherence of best practice BI and reporting governance.

  • Work with our implementation partners and support a range of activities centred around the building of data pipelines and associated configuration.

  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimising data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.

  • Ensure the smooth and efficient handover of the platform support from our implementation partners to in-house support.

  • Undertake 2nd line support duties for IT Data Warehouse related incidents & resolve issues within IT Service Level Agreements.

A very good understanding of Data Warehouse architecture, and the concepts of ETL/ELT.

  • Experience with Cloud technology, ideally Azure.

  • Strong knowledge of one or more programming languages, such as SQL.

  • 3+ years' experience of managing data pipeline development.

  • Strong communication skills to be able to explain technical concepts to nontechnical stakeholders.

  • Good understanding of data governance frameworks.

  • Desirable:
  • University degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.

  • Python coding experience for configuration in cloud.

  • Understanding of the full MS BI stack (SSIS, SSAS).

  • Proficient in Matillion and Snowflake.

  • Someone who wants to learn, and further their own knowledge as well as support the team by sharing knowledge and experience.

  • Knowledge of IFS ERP systems.

We're independent, British and proud to be making the highest quality yogurts, desserts and ice cream under the Yeo Valley brand and for many of the UK's major retailers. We're sure you don't need convincing, but there's a whole host of benefits that we offer including:
  • 25 days holiday allowance

  • non-contributory pension scheme

  • life cover

  • healthcare cash back plan

  • Our closing dates are a guide for when the application window should close, although we may close the advert sooner if we can. So, we recommend you get your application in straight away - and don't miss the opportunity to join us!

Unfortunately, we're not able to provide employment sponsorship to candidates at this moment in time.
