Full Job Description

As the Underwriting Manager at ManyPets, your responsibilities include owning and drafting policy wordings and other regulatory documentation, ensuring they adhere to the insurance principles, but all clear, concise and in plain English. You'll coordinate the underwriting committees with our partner insurers, taking a tight control on governance, maintaining an excellent relationship with key external stakeholders for underwriting.

As the first point of call for all underwriting queries, you'll take the lead on operational and claim referrals, ensuring they are resolved within SLAs. This includes developing and maintaining the underwriting processes and guides, working to embed understanding and underwriting philosophy throughout the business.

Additionally, you'll help the wider Underwriting team deliver actionable insight across the business and achieve its objectives. This includes liaising with compliance and legal teams to identify the legal and regulatory impacts of changes, ensuring adequate controls and monitoring of governance and risk controls.,

  • Management of our pet insurance portfolio, ensuring alignment with business objectives and our goals for excellent customer satisfaction.

  • Responsible ensuring technical queries and dealt with in agreed timeframes, including resolving operations and claims product underwriting queries.

  • Ensure the underwriting roadmaps are prioritised to deliver against business objectives.

  • Coordinate the UK loss ratio committee and loss ratio flight path in order to achieve financial objectives.

  • Explore opportunities to improve underwriting processes and procedures.

  • Monitor our underwriting footprint (or paw print) ensuring business operates and complies consistently with our different insurance products.

  • Work with the wider CUO team to deliver optimal UW rules within the Earnix system and collaborate with other trading teams to achieve ongoing targets.

  • Develop and maintain underwriting process guides and work with peers to embed understanding through the business.

  • Work closely with the underwriting team and wider stakeholders to ensure regulatory and underwriting requirements are met.

  • Liaise with our internal Compliance team to identify the impact of legal and regulatory changes.

  • Deliver and own our policy documentation making sure that it's in plain English, clear and concise - so everyone can understand the content.

  • Build close and trusted relationships with other key partners outside the business.

  • Monitor underwriting governance and risk controls.

  • Manage our internal product oversight and ensure appropriate product maintenance.

  • Lead by example and role model our company values - inspiring others to do the same., On a typical day you'll be working from a laptop with a screen, mouse, keyboard, and headset. You'll be meeting your colleagues on Zoom and keeping in touch regularly via email and Slack too - we'd expect you to be using your computer for around seven hours a day. We'd ask that you have a distraction-free work area and a reliable internet connection with a speed of 25Mbps so you can work effectively. We'll make sure you have the right home set-up that supports you in the role by providing best-in-class technology, money towards a desk, and vision support.

    You're an experienced Senior Underwriter or Underwriting Manager with a few years of underwriting experience already.

  • You have experience in writing and developing personal lines policy wordings, preferably in pet insurance.

  • You'll be a recognised technical manager of an insurance portfolio and someone who can balance both alignment with business objectives and excellent customer satisfaction.

  • We value veterinary healthcare experience, and you'll bring an understanding of pet insurance products and insurance commercials.

  • You'll have experience of the regulatory responsibilities of insurance business and key obligations that need to be met within a regulated environment.

    This position has a three-step interview process, which will be held via Zoom.

  • Stage 1 - an informal 45-minute meeting with our People team. We'll explain more about the role and how your experience matches up with what we need.

  • Stage 2 - you'll meet our Chief Underwriting Officer and one of the managers in the team. This will be a longer interview up to an hour and we'll ask you some competency questions.

  • Stage 3 - you'll be asked to present on an underwriting topic, with 15 minutes of questions led by two of our managers. We expect this final meeting to last up to 90 minutes.
