Full Job Description

  • Be at the very heart of the Council, working with Elected Members and colleagues across Council and South Tyneside Homes departments, to support residents with requests for information.

  • 'Own' an enquiry from start to end, ensuring customers receive a timely and full response to their questions.

  • Operate within a political environment, in a non-political way, ensuring that you respect Elected Members of all parties and backgrounds.

  • Have the support of a great team around you who will provide training and development to help you hit the ground running.


  • You will need to bring:
  • Excellent organisation skills.

  • Strong IT skills.

  • Empathy and good customer service skills.

  • A professional telephone manner.

  • A commitment to providing an outstanding service.


  • You will also:
  • Ensure confidentiality is always maintained, respecting each customer as an individual.

  • Manage expectations of customers, often in challenging situations - a calm demeanour and ability to work under pressure is essential.

  • Support team members in the wider Civic and Members Support Office - this may include working outside of usual working hours, so a flexible approach is essential.
