Full Job Description

The successful post holder will support the effective day to day operational delivery of a front-line service that engages with our local community partners, offering the highest possible standard of customer care and experience.

You will actively promote a welcoming environment and be the first point of contact for all customers; whilst assisting in performance monitoring to improve quality and effectiveness of the service in line with key performance indicators and targets. All our libraries are also Walsall Connected Centres, so you will be asked to support with information related council enquiries, liaising with other council colleagues and offering referrals when needed.

Duties will include:

  • Answering general information based and book related enquiries.

  • Shelving and promoting library stock.

  • Cash handling.

  • Registering new users.

  • Supporting customers in the use of IT via public access computers.

  • Supporting the site manager in the daily operational needs of the library.

  • Supporting customers with Walsall Connected enquiries.

    The ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills, proven excellent customer service, experience of dealing with members of the public in a leisure or culture industry, and a flexible and proactive approach to work, both individually and as part of a team, are essential to this key post., This post is covered by the Government's Code of Practice on the English Language Fluency Duty for public sector workers. The post holder will be required to communicate verbally with customers and provide advice and/or information in accurate spoken English.

    Salary: G4, £23,893 - £25,979 per annum


  • An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Walsall Community Libraries team at Bloxwich Community Library.

    Walsall Community Libraries is comprised of a network of 7 libraries in Walsall: Aldridge, Bloxwich, Brownhills, Darlaston, Streetly, Willenhall, Lichfield Street Hub in the town centre of Walsall and a Mobile and Home Library Service.

    The post holder will be based initially at Bloxwich Community Library but may be required to work at other library locations for the operational needs of the service, so flexibility in hours and locations is essential. All community libraries are open from Tuesday to Friday 8.30am-6pm and on Saturdays 9am-5pm, except for Streetly Community Library which is closed on Thursdays., Here at Walsall, we want to attract the best talent.
