Full Job Description

The apprentice engineer will work from Hedley Hydraulics' technical office/workshops in Wakefield, for immediate start. Hedley Hydraulics' own 'in-house' technical product training will be provided to compliment the training that is provided by the AMRC Training Centre., The following skills and work routines are typical of our hydraulic fitter/technicians:

  • Build and assemble of hydraulic systems

  • Repair and refurbish existing hydraulic equipment

  • Test hydraulic components and complete systems

  • Fabricate and assemble hydraulic pipework of all sizes

  • Understanding of assembly and part drawings

  • Understanding of hydraulic and electrical schematic drawings

  • Fault diagnosis

  • Understanding of the fundamentals of hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps and valves and their applications

  • Knowledge and implementation of Electrohydraulic & Electromechanical Systems


  • The training you will be getting

    You will study on a Level 3 Engineering Fitter standard on a Mechatronics Maintenance Technician pathway. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Advanced Level 3.

    During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield's AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.

    Choose one of the following qualifications: 1) Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) - Awarding organisation EAL; GLH 750, or 2) Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge) - Awarding organisation Pearson; GLH 720 or 3) Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) Awarding organisation City & Guilds; GLH 720., Communication skills, Attention to detail, Organisation skills, Problem solving skills, Analytical skills, Team working, GCSE or equivalent English Language (Grade Grade C or 4) Essential
    GCSE or equivalent Mathematics (Grade Grade C or 4) Essential
