Full Job Description

The right candidate will lead the delivery of Health and Wellbeing programme at Wigan Youth Zone. They will be required to work four evening sessions face to face delivery within The Base (our Issue Based room) with young people of high school/college age or young adults with additional needs.

Activities will be delivered within The Base and should have a focus on Health and Wellbeing related topics and themes / issue-based and awareness work round as topics such as Healthy Relationships, Sexual Health, Drugs and Alcohol, Bullying, Body Image, Internet Safety to name a few.

The job will additionally require leading the Issue Based Youth workers in delivery of a program for the Base and to work closely with them to develop a youth-led and exciting Health and Wellbeing Curriculum. The right candidate will manage a team of three Health and Wellbeing youth workers and manage a budget. Other responsibilities include timesheets and checking in with the Issue Based Youth Work Team. Admin hours will be allocated for planning and getting resources for the Issue Base programme., · Lead the development of Wigan Youth Zones Health and Wellbeing Curriculum.

· Manage the budget, supervise and provide the resources for the Health and Wellbeing team with the support of the Senior Club Manager.

· Plan and deliver Health and Wellbeing/issue based work within The Base .

· Liaise with Schools/other services in relation to Targeted projects.

· Work directly with children and young people to develop their social skills and build their confidence by delivering programmes of activities and services;

· Empower young people to reach their full potential.

· Directly deliver a high-quality programme of activity that is exciting, safe, varied, innovative, developmental and directly responds to the diverse needs, concerns and interests of the members;

· Establish positive relationships with children and young people;

· Respond to the needs of the young people through activities in the Base and of who attend Wigan Youth Zone

· Support and motivate part-time staff and volunteers working in the Base

· Work flexibly to ensure the needs of the members are met, including disadvantaged children and young people and those with disabilities or additional needs;

· Ensure that the members maintain a high standard of behaviour and discipline during sessions;

· Ensure the participation of young people in activities and that their ideas contribute fully in the delivery and evaluation of activities;

· Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people at all times;

· Be an active member of the team and operate in line with the values and principles of Wigan Youth Zone.

General

· To be alert to issues of safeguarding child protection, ensuring the welfare and safety of Youth Zone members is promoted and safeguarded, and to report any child protection concerns to the designated Child Protection Officers using the safeguarding policies, procedures and practice (training to be provided);

· To assist with any promotional activities and visits that take place at the Youth Zone;

· To actively promote the Youth Zone and positively contribute towards increasing Youth Zone memberships.

· To adhere to Wigan Youth Zone policies at all times, with particular reference to Health and Safety, Child Protection and Equal Opportunities.

Other duties

· To carry out any other duty with the Youth Zone provision and facility operations, and within the competencies of the post holder, as directed by your line manager or a senior manager.

The job holder will be required to adhere to the Youth Zone's policies at all times, with particular emphasis on Equal Opportunities and Safeguarding. Attendance at events and conferences will sometimes be required.

In accordance with our Child Protection and Safeguarding procedures, this position requires an enhanced DBS check and business satisfactory references.

Please note that in line with our Safeguarding Policy, you must be age 21 or over to work in our Senior Sessions and 19+ to work on our Junior Sessions and Holiday Clubs. All applicants must also be inactive as members for at least 12 months.

Knowledge of the issues affecting young people and an ability to work with challenging behaviour.

Understanding of the principles of working with children and young people

Knowledge of health and safety, diversity awareness and safeguarding best practice and how these relate to children and young people.

Willingness and commitment to self-development

Qualifications

Youth Work, Youth and Community Work -Essential

GCSE English and Maths grade C or above, or equivalent qualifications - Essential

    Wigan Youth Zone is a purpose built, state-of-the-art youth facility in Wigan town centre which opened in June 2013. It offers young people from across Wigan the opportunity to meet friends, have new experiences, learn new skills and access the support they need to develop and achieve their potential.
