Full Job Description

We are now recruiting for a General Manager to run the 2 venues of the Secret Garden & Mala Malu that between them can trade up to £35,000 per week.

The Secret Garden is a high end outdoor cocktail, & event venue. You may have seen us on social media, we had an amazing few years and we are looking to build on that for the coming year. We have sheltered most of the customer area with a roof system and heaters.

We have also built an event sector within the business that has been fruitful and is only gaining momentum. We are working with amazing event brands which showcase international DJ's and artists.

The second venue is CookieShake, a fun and vibrant multi faceted business. We have just invested £65,000 in a new refit over the last 24 months that has turned the venue into an all day venue that will serve main meals, milkshakes and alcoholic drinks.

The 2 venues are linked, but operate completely independently of each other with their own entrances, bars and facilities.

We are looking for someone that will continue the growth of the Nottingham Secret Garden and CookieShake. The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a busy cocktail bar and be comfortable at running the operational side of events.

The role is not office based and we are looking for someone with industry experience that can help to maintain the high standards we have become our culture and someone that leads by example.

Your Role…

  • Lead the team and take full responsibility for the business, working with the owners and management team.

  • Drive sales through optimising performance of all staff at all levels.

  • Maintain high standards whilst working in line with the brands to help push the business forward.

  • Manage all health & safety aspects of the business.

  • Help manage events

  • Take full control of stock, wastage & ordering - working to set targets & assigned KPI's.

  • Create innovative menus for both venues.

  • All of the day to day roles required to run 2 busy hospitality venues., This is the perfect role for either an experienced Deputy General Manager or General Manager to take their career to the next level and get in on the ground floor of an expanding independent operator.


  • Who we want?

    Bar management experience is essential.

    Your key focus and skills need to be driving the highest service standards, training and building your team to deliver this, and ensuring we consistently beat targets.

  • At least 2 years' experience as a Deputy GM or GM, and a proven track record in a high volume establishment.

  • A Passion for good quality drinks and food.

  • Strong drinks & Industry knowledge - cocktail experience is essential.

  • Strong financial understanding.

  • An outgoing personality with the ability to lead from the front., AGM or higher: 2 years (required)
