Full Job Description

Independent, family-owned and run funeral directors, AB Walker are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Funeral Administrator.

The role includes assisting families in making funeral arrangements, co-ordinating third parties to ensure all aspects of the funeral process are handled professionally and sensitively and preparing the chapel of rest for loved ones. This is a full-time role, 5 days a week from 9.00am to 5.00pm.

The salary for this role starts at £24,000 and is flexible depending on experience. Other benefits we offer are increasing holiday allowance with service, day off for your birthday, pension, cash plan and bike to work scheme.

A typical day in the life of a funeral administrator:

Working at AB Walker is rewarding. The AB Walker family is a welcoming team. Here respect and compassion are given to all, whether customer or employee. Being part of a grieving family's toughest time is a responsibility we take very seriously, and every member of the team needs to be - and is - professional, caring and understanding.

The day begins at 9.00am with an online meeting with the Funeral Administrator Managers; reviewing the schedule for the day.

The funeral administrator begins by checking emails and voicemails, responding to enquiries from families and officiants. They may also follow up on any paperwork or arrangements that need to be completed.

Meetings may take place with grieving families who are planning funeral services for their loved ones. The funeral administrator listens to their wishes and offers guidance on options for the service, burial or cremation, and any additional arrangements.

After each meeting, the funeral administrator co-ordinates with various service providers. This could include contacting florists, caterers, musicians, or clergy to ensure that everything is arranged according to the family's wishes. All details are recorded on our inhouse system Eulogica.

Lunchtime offers a brief respite, but the funeral administrator remains on-call in case any urgent matters arise.

In the afternoon, the funeral administrator may meet with families again to finalise arrangements or to assist with paperwork such as death certificates, order of services and obituary notices.

Administrative tasks fill the rest of the afternoon. This includes updating records, filing paperwork, and managing the finances related to the services provided.

The funeral administrator may prepare the chapel of rest for those wanting to pay their respects to a loved one or may be assisting someone interested in pre-planning their own funeral.

At the end of the day the funeral administrator ensures that the premises are tidy and ready for the next day.

Throughout the day, the funeral administrator must demonstrate compassion, professionalism, and attention to detail as they assist families during one of the most difficult times of their lives.

For almost 200 years, AB Walker have been looking after the final farewells of Berkshire and surrounding areas with care, compassion and understanding. The heritage, values and culture we have nurtured over the years are infused in everything we do.

We love what we do and hope to carry on doing what we do best for many years to come. That means thinking of the future and doing our utmost to innovate new ways to support sustainable funerals wherever possible.
