Full Job Description

The Fire Safety Competency and Development Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining a comprehensive training programme for fire risk assessors ensuring that a high level of competency is attained via formal qualification and practical experience.

Reporting into the Head of Fire Risk Assessment, the Competency and Development Manager will:

  • Create a robust development pathway for fire risk assessors to incorporate a suite of formal qualifications and training programmes that will provide a career pathway for new fire risk assessors.

  • Provide training and mentoring on the FCS-live FRA Tablet and Management software

  • Assess the competency of fire risk assessors and identify knowledge gaps.

  • Provide training at appropriate levels to educate assessors at various levels of experience.

  • Shadow assessors on site to provide support and development on a wide range of purpose groups.

  • Create contract specific guidance documents required to support fire risk assessors working for FCS-live.

  • Create guidance and training on updates to legislation and guidance.

  • Technical support

  • Support the Helpdesk support system with technical knowledge and commercial awareness.

  • Support assessors with technical queries.

  • Assist assessors in attaining appropriate CPD and achieving individual third-party accreditation and professional membership.

  • Review validation reports to identify knowledge gaps and additional training needs.

  • Conduct Fire Risk Assessments as required to support the business and remain proficient in the process.

    This post demands an experienced, dynamic, and committed individual with good leadership skills., Minimum of 5 years continuous experience of on-site fire risk assessment (FRA) inspections and report writing

  • Extensive experience of undertaking and, a good understanding of, Types 1 - 4 FRAs

  • Broad range of property purpose group experience, eg. example residential, commercial, industrial, etc.

  • Strong awareness of the Fire Sector Federation Industry Benchmark Standards for Fire Risk Assessors and the National Framework for Fire Risk Assessor Competency

  • Strong understanding of fire safety regulations

  • Experience in providing training.

  • Membership with a professional fire safety body such as the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) and/or Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM) or Institute of Fire Protection Officers (IFPO)

  • Fire Safety Level 4 Certificate or higher

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including fluency and understanding of the English language.

  • Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD) and vocational fire safety courses

  • A proactive working style with the ability to prioritise own workload, meet deadlines, and work autonomously.

  • CSCS (Construction Skills Certificate Scheme) card

  • Membership with an approved fire risk assessor register (IFE, FRACS, IFSM TFRAR, IFPO FRAR)

  • Working knowledge of Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Codes of Practice (incl. BS 9999 and BS 9991), The Building Regulations (ADB Vol 1 & Vol 2), LACORS, NFCC Specialised Housing Guide, Purpose Built Blocks of Flats Guide 2011 and other guides as necessary.
