Full Job Description

The role involves providing technical support and testing of vehicles for exhaust emissions, to meet the client/customer demand, including calibration and maintenance of the facility.,

  • Assisting the management in running the emissions lab.

  • Being fully conversant with the job requirements.

  • Implementing both written and verbal instructions, to meet the project/customer requirements.

  • Taking instructions and forming a detailed day-to-day test schedule, considering equipment and personnel availability.

  • Producing consistent vehicle test data/reports to meet the project/client demand.

  • Assisting clients with determining project and customer tasks and objectives.

  • Understanding and implementing legislated emission test limits and the more common test processes.

  • Working effectively and harmoniously with client/project engineers, external clients, and service engineers, both on and off-site.

  • Understanding the lab processes and their implementation

  • Following processes and quality system requirements.

  • Recording and keeping accurate records.

  • Working effectively as a team member and leading/guiding the subordinate/trainee members of the team on day-to-day activities.

  • Assisting in the implementation & monitoring of all lab calibration requirements.

  • Understanding and implementing all personnel, lab and team health & safety requirements and its areas of responsibility (fuel, gas store etc.)

    Recognised apprenticeship in a related discipline - automotive, mechanical, electrical, or electronics.

  • GCSE 'C' grades in Maths, English, Science (as a minimum)

  • Excellent working knowledge of the vehicle emissions testing processes in a laboratory environment.

  • Able to use Horiba Stars-Vets OS to a test standard.

  • Excellent verbal and written skills.

  • PC Literate.

  • Excellent problem solving abilities.

  • Experience and knowledge of test facilities, or similar testing environments.

  • Excellent engineering skills.

  • Team player.

  • Motivated & motivator.

  • Able to make and rationalise decisions.

  • Excellent communicator.


  • Desirable:

  • B.TEC in an automotive, mechanical, electrical, or electronic discipline.

  • NVQ 2 Emissions Tester.

  • Detailed knowledge of vehicle testing and emissions legislation, in a laboratory environment.

  • Above average level of PC literacy.

  • Negotiation skills.

  • Thorough understanding of vehicle emission testing legislation.

  • Understanding of team dynamics and results delivery.

  • Confident and assured when dealing with clients on & off site.
