Full Job Description

The FAW are recruiting an Elite Club Development Manager to engage with the Cymru Premier Clubs to provide elite level support that enables clubs to enhance their ability to function with professional, high-performance standards that drive the quality of the league forward.

With focus placed upon developing the off-field activity at clubs, this role will be responsible for ensuring strong foundations are built within the clubs to enable the 2024-2030 Cymru Premier strategy to be achieved.

Key Areas of Accountability/Responsibility

  • Provide bespoke club development services to Cymru Premier League Clubs connected to the off-field developments, aligned to the 2024-2030 Cymru Premier Strategy

  • Deliver and arrange support that develops the quality of leadership within Cymru Premier Clubs, with key focus placed upon governance, finance and workforce development.

  • Support clubs to create connections which support commercial development, knowledge sharing and a strong network across the top tiers of football in Wales.

  • Support Cymru Premier Clubs to develop their own 5-year Club Development Plans, covering 2025-2030.

  • Lead on the creation and delivery of the new Cymru Premier Club Development programme.

  • Play a critical role in developing centralised resources to support club operations both on and off the field.

  • Work closely with the club licencing team, to provide insight into developments within elite football in Wales.

  • Utilise data and insights to continue to evolve and develop the support clubs in the Cymru Premier are receiving.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Domestic Football Department and wider FAW team to achieve aligned priorities and objectives.

  • Stay updated with current trends and future innovations connected to club development services to support the growth of Elite football in Wales.

  • Budget development, management and monitoring relating to team priorities and activities.

  • Produce regular progress reports and provide advice for consideration to the National Leagues Board and Council where necessary.


  • Personal Specifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent industry level experience that is connected to the Sports industry., 3 Years evidenced experience of leading change in a high-performance sport environments.

  • Professional expertise and experience in the areas of leadership and high-performance sport.

  • Evidenced experience in developing and leading strategies.

  • Independent, autonomous worker, who can effectively manage multiple projects.

  • 3 Years evidenced experience of a senior leadership position in professional sport. (Desirable)


  • Knowledge, Skills & Behaviours
  • Strong understanding of elite football/sport club operations and structures.

  • Ability to manage and prioritise a demanding workload with excellent organisational skills.

  • Experienced at building relationships and maintaining those relationships, both internal and external.

  • Ability to communicate with C-Suite level individuals within club environments.

  • Developmental mindset to support growth in others.

  • Experience with Microsoft applications, for example, Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn.

  • Ability to respect and keep secure any confidential information.

  • The ability to work as part of a team but also without supervision.

  • Understanding of the Elite Welsh Football landscape (Desirable)


  • Role Specific Requirements
  • Driving license and access to transport.

  • The appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

  • The post holder will often be required to perform their duties or additional work or attend training outside of normal office hours and/or in different locations, either domestically or internationally, at the discretion of the Head of Domestic Leagues.

  • Spoken and written Welsh would be desirable.
