Full Job Description

The primary purpose of this position is to install, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain various electrical systems, controls,
and equipment base wide plus initial and periodic Electrical Inspection, Testing and Certification within domestic, industrial
and hazardous area installations including Lightning Protection and associated infrastructure within the 48th Civil Engineer
Squadron located at both RAF Lakenheath & RAF Feltwell. The successful applicant will Install, maintain, repair and
replace electrical systems such as panels, services and various power sources. Additionally, they will modify loads, and carry
out inspection and testing of new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, panels, switches, breakers, and
controls located in and near installation buildings and structures. They will troubleshoot problem areas and test for defective
equipment and faulty wiring, both using and maintaining various types of hand and/or power tools, such as screwdrivers,
pliers, wire cutters, soldering irons, cable pullers, hydraulic benders, and pipe threading machines. They will utilize safety
practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and
clean work environment and maintain records and documents actions.,

  • Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.

  • May be assigned other duties that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the employee.

  • May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties or attend necessary

  • training.
  • Position may be coded as mission essential.

  • A 6-month probationary period will be required.

  • Overtime may be required.

  • May be required to travel overnight to US or other countries in the performance of official duties or attend necessary

    I. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
    2. Knowledge of technical practices in order to plan, lay out, install, modify, troubleshoot, and repair and inspect and test a
    variety of complete systems.
    3. Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and instruments used in shop and trade practices, and of electrical
    equipment, i.e., test lamps, multimeters, circuit analyzers, circuit breaker testers, voltage recording meters, meggers,
    wattmeters, ohmmeters, and ammeters.
    4. Skill in using and maintaining hand tools such as, screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, strippers, cable pullers, drills,
    soldering irons, and manual or power conduit benders and threaders. on large and complex refrigeration and air conditioning
    units and systems, including replacing major portions of assigned systems.
    5. Skill in troubleshooting and tracing hard-to-locate defects or problems.
    6. Ability to use electrical drawings, blueprints, engineering drawings, and wiring diagrams and to install, troubleshoot,
    repair, and maintain various electrical systems, controls, and equipment without more than normal supervision., 1. Employee may be required to facilitate an on-call function over a 24-hour period covering 7 days a week as per
    the manning roster. For every calendar day of the year, one member of this roster will be designated as being on-call
    on their on-call days and be able to perform their job responsibilities on short notice; (b) refrain from activities that
    impair their ability to perform job duties, e.g., alcohol or drug use; (c) be in a position to provide an initial response
    by telephone within 10 minutes of being called; (d) remain within a 45-minute commuting radius from the
    installation; (e) keep the necessary transportation and telecommunication available to respond as described in items
    (c) and (d) above. On-call allowance is activated only during the period of time the employee is performing the
    function of the on-call responsibilities. On-call allowance is not payable during periods of leave, sick absence, or
    when employee is not rostered.
    2. Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
    3. It is required to possess a valid UK driving license in order to drive a motor vehicle to and from work sites. A category B
    driving license is required.
    4. Emergency overtime may be required.
    5. May work with hazardous materials such as asbestos or accumulated waste. Employee will be required to wear protective
    clothing and gear on these occasions.
    6. City & Guilds level 3 Award in the requirements electrical installations BS 7671: June 2008 (2011)
    7. Inspection, Testing & Certification of Electrical Installations City & Guilds 2391 desired.
    8. The incumbent will be expected to obtain ATEX/DSEAR internal and external training certification within one year.
    9. First aid training for electric shock and fire safety training is required.

  • £15.95 p.h. plus a Recruitment Incentive payable bi-weekly in the amount of £297.18 for four years (104 pay
