Full Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Engineer to play a key role in building and maintaining our data infrastructure. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our data architecture. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the efficient flow and storage of data, enabling the organisation to make informed decisions. If you are passionate about data, have a positive attitude, have a strong foundation in engineering, and thrive in a collaborative environment, we want to hear from you.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Can design, build and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes

  • Interested in seeing data used to help people and communities

  • Have a positive attitude

  • Able to collaborate with data specialists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements

  • Able to join datasets from multiple sources

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering

    We have started an ambitious programme of work to transform our approach to data, analytics and insight at Salford City Council. Our ambition is to develop a leading data and insight service that uses cutting edge tools and technologies to better understand our city, its residents, and businesses.


  • A key component of our transformation programme is the development of our data architecture. We collect large volumes of data about our residents and businesses across a large number of areas including children's social care, adult social care, homelessness, debt advice, welfare support, council tax, and community centres. This data is stored in multiple systems, and we need to be able to join up this data to so that we can better understand the needs of our city.

    Our data engineers will play a pivotal role in this project, building and maintaining this data architecture. This will then be used by our analysts and data scientists to provide actionable insights that help the council to deliver public services to the people of Salford.
