Full Job Description

We require an experienced and enthusiastic Tutor to join us at our developing site in Treherbert to plan, prepare, deliver and assess our Level 2 NVQ in Coppicing & Greenwood Trades. The right candidate will become a vital part of our team, inspiring and empowering students with their passion for the topic. The role will involve teaching approximately two-days per week in term time. In addition to the teaching aspect of the role, there is also a requirement to occasionally represent BMC in schools, at open days and at careers fairs outside of normal teaching hours.,

  • Prepare lesson plans (based on pre-selected units), teach and assess students on the Level 2 NVQ Coppicing & Greenwood Trades course

  • Organise and prepare teaching spaces for lessons, identifying any additional equipment required in good time

  • Maintain good communication with line manager and the rest of the team to ensure a positive student experience and the smooth running of the course

  • Where necessary, organise and plan trips or visits to other sites and arrange guest speakers to enrich the student experience

  • Ensure all students are well-prepared for assessments and assess students' work in a variety of forms including verbal, practical, and written, providing constructive feedback

  • Ensure all course paperwork and administration is kept up to date and compliant with relevant quality standards, and ESTYN requirements

  • Liaise with internal and external assessors and auditors as required

  • Take responsibility for health and safety during taught sessions, carrying out and communicating robust risk assessments

  • Attend student recruitment and other events to help promote the course and the College

  • Communicate with prospective students in the lead-up to the course start, supporting the admissions and selection process as required

  • Attend termly tutor meetings and ensure own CPD is maintained

    We are now in our third academic year and have students of all ages and backgrounds participating in our NVQs across two locations, a varied short course programme, and a degree - BA (Hons) Sustainable Futures: Arts, Ecology and Systems Change., TAQA Assessors Award Level 3 (or willing to complete during first year of teaching)

  • PGCE or Train the Trainer Level 2 or equivalent (or willing to complete this during first year)

  • Minimum Level 3 qualification in relevant subject or equivalent experience

  • Valid chainsaw licence (or able to complete upon starting)

  • Current first aid qualification or willing to complete prior to course start

  • Health and Safety qualification (or willing to complete prior to course start)

  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office 365

  • Current full driving licence and use of own vehicle


  • Desirable Skills & Qualifications
  • Safeguarding qualification (requirement to complete upon starting)

  • Welsh language speaker

  • Category D1 Driving licence (to drive minibus) qualification

  • Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration, A 'can do' attitude and good problem-solving skills

  • The ability to build positive relationships and inspire students

  • Excellent organisational skills with an emphasis on attention to detail and record keeping

  • Great team player and excellent communicator
