Full Job Description

Do you want to be part of a ground-breaking company - building homes, futures and communities... Together?
Would you like the opportunity to develop professionally, enhance your network and make a difference?

We are seeking enthusiastic candidates to join our Board Diversity Programme, where you could be instrumental in setting our direction and overseeing our future growth. The Programme is an opportunity for aspiring professionals from a diverse range of backgrounds to understand what it takes to become a non-executive director within a large and complex organisation.

It is ideally suited for those with a strong social purpose, who are passionate about communities and who want to shape and influence our organisation. We hope to develop a pipeline of local talent, generating excellent future leaders for the benefit of the communities we serve.

We would encourage people from all backgrounds and lived experiences to apply, and welcome a diverse range of attributes, ages and backgrounds. You should have an open and enquiring mind, a commitment to the programme, and be dedicated to the personal development it takes to become a future board member.

Owning and managing 36,000 homes, our influence spans from the east to the west coast, covering the vibrant communities of Lancashire and Yorkshire, and reaching as far south as Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. Our focus lies on serving some of the most diverse communities in the North of England.

How it works, and what you'll do
Our board diversity programme provides the opportunity for people who have the aspiration and behavioural attributes to become a non-executive but not necessarily all the skills, knowledge or experience to be successful in securing a position.

If you are successful in securing a board associate position you will go through a 2-year Programme which would include the following:

  • A comprehensive induction to the Group.

  • You will attend Board Excellence training events which are run by Housing Diversity Network. These sessions will equip you with the skills and knowledge to enable you to operate in a board level environment.

  • You will be assigned a mentor who will either be an experienced executive or non-executive. This will give you the opportunity to receive coaching and feedback from someone who has been successful over a long period of time in the field.

  • You will be invited to attend board and/or committee meetings as an observer to put into practice what you have learned in your training.

  • There will be opportunities to participate in development exercises with others on the programme including mock board meetings and personal development sessions.

  • Throughout the programme there will be 1-2-1 and peer support provided. At the end of the two year programme it is our aim that you will have acquired the knowledge and experience that will allow you to be ready to be able to make a successful application for a non-executive position.

It is essential in your expression of interest that you provide as full an answer as possible to each of the criteria being answered to ensure your application covers all the relevant experience that the selection panel will be looking for in the sift process.
