Full Job Description

This post offers a unique opportunity to work in an internationally recognised children's hospital and designated Major Trauma and HCID Centre. Successful candidates will gain broad experience in paediatric intensive care including cardiac and respiratory ECMO, and paediatric transport medicine, and is relevant to all acute specialties. The posts are for 6 months with possibility for extension to 24 months (maximum) and suitable for candidates with anaesthetic experience who would benefit from gaining experience in managing critically ill children for career development. Candidates should have completed their IAC and have at 2 years anaesthetic experience. Candidates with extensive experience in paediatrics or emergency medicine are invited to apply as well., Successful candidate will provide clinical cover on a hybrid rota with the ACPs. Clinical duties will include shift work pattern on a unique rota with some academic days to pursue and participate in ongoing projects / audits that are happening on the unit. Teaching will be provided on a local and regional level.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain advanced experience of working in Paediatric Intensive Care and develop the skills and experience in managing critically unwell children. As we are a Major Trauma Centre, Regional Cardiac Center and Neonatal Surgical center, the successful applicant will gain exposure to managing a wide range of pathologies. The Fellow post will be spent on the Regional Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Alder Hey Hospital with an option to rotate to the Northwest & North Wales Paediatric Transport Service, NWTS (depending on candidate preference and available vacancies).

Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust is one of Europe's biggest and busiest children's hospitals providing care for over 200,000 children and young people each year. It is one of only four stand-alone Paediatric trusts in the UK and is staffed by 2,800 employees. In 2017 the hospital has moved into the state-of-the-art children's hospital - Alder Hey in the Park. As the Paediatric Cardiac Surgical Centre for the North West, both departments also play a key role in the wider Paediatric Congenital Cardiac Network for the North West, North Wales, and Isle of Man.

Alder Hey offers 20 specialist services including being the designated national center for Craniofacial Surgery and a Centre of Excellence for Paediatric Oncology, Cardiac Surgery, Cardiology, Neurology and Orthopaedics. It is a teaching hospital and trains 550 medical and 400 nursing students each year. A child and adolescent mental health service is also provided with an in-patient unit based at the Trust. Recent expansion has seen the provision of additional theatres (there are 13 operating Theatres in total) and the opening of a new Neuro-sciences development.

Alder Hey serves not only the children of Liverpool but is the tertiary referral center for children from Merseyside, Cheshire, parts of Lancashire, Shropshire and North Wales for many sub-specialties of Paediatrics. The Trust provides a range of community services including school nursing, home careers and a child development center.
