Full Job Description

General Dynamics Land Systems is on the look-out for a full-time Ajax Hull Manufacturing Engineer to join our Manufacturing Team, based in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales on a permanent contract. The successful and inclusive candidate will earn a favourable salary of £41,600 to £52,000 based on experience and potential. This is an ideal role for someone who has a proactive and positive mindset and a keen desire to grow professionally.

Joining an established team, you will work across a range of stake holders participating and co-ordinating the implementation of major component fabrication & quality rectification. Role requires development and documentation of rework processes, ability to define solutions from tech drawing analysis, and generate tooling in-house for the Assembly processes.

Ensuring: DFM, DFT & DTC principles have been applied to optimise quality, cost and turnaround time objectives.

  • Ensuring appropriate facilities are in place to support qualification / production vehicle and sub-system build and test in accordance to schedule.
  • Working with the Supply Chain supporting Supplier selection initiatives, problem resolution and cost out initiatives.

  • Supporting AJAX Design Engineering and other new programmes in order to ensure that DFM, DFT & DTC principles are implemented within the conceptual and final design phases.

  • Generation/governance of Technical documentation to ensure hull repair actions return the product to design intent.

    Proven experience working with Manufacturing Assembly and Test processes (AFV Ajax / ELS experience preferred)

  • Experience of low volume & high value (vehicle or similar) production.

  • Knowledge and procurement of tooling and facilitation activities required for manufacturing large high value / low volume products

  • Working experience of welded structures for wheeled/tracked vehicles (armour preferable)

  • A working understanding of two & three dimensional CAD tools is essential

  • Significant experience/background in a Process/Manufacturing Engineering role

  • Good working knowledge of MRP systems including:

  • MBOM creation and maintenance

  • Change control and change introduction

  • The jobholder should possess a Degree, HNC or equivalent (vocational experience) in Manufacturing Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Weld & Fabrication equivalent.

  • Experience working as a Manufacturing Engineer covering Mechanical/Electrical assemblies

  • A good knowledge of PDM and MRP principles

  • Participation in 'Lean Process' initiatives.
